Radon levels normally fluctuate throughout the seasons, with radon levels typically being the highest in the winter months and lowest in the summer months.
There are different ‘schools of thought’ associated with radon action levels. The EPA has set an Action Level for radon at 4.0 pCi/L, while the World Health Organization has set their Action Level at 2.7 pCi/L. At an average radon level of 4.0 pCi/L, this is equivalent to smoking roughly 8 cigarettes per day.

Radon is a radioactive gas that comes from the natural decay of uranium found in the earth – rocks and soils. Radon makes its way into your property thru basement concrete foundations, concrete slab, or up from the crawlspace beneath your property. Radon tends to be more elevated in the lower levels of your property and typically decreases for every floor you go up. Any property may have a radon problem. This means new and old homes, well-sealed and drafty homes, and homes with or without basements. Radon can also make its way into schools, daycares, hotels, or your place of work.
Radon is estimated to cause about 21,000 lung cancer deaths each year in the United States. Smokers are at higher risk of developing Radon-induced lung cancer. Lung cancer is the only health effect which has been definitively linked with radon exposure. Lung cancer would usually occur years (5-25) after exposure.
In southeast Idaho, approximately 30-40% of properties have an elevated radon level.
There is no evidence that other respiratory diseases, such as asthma, are caused by radon exposure and there is no evidence that children are at any greater risk of radon induced lung cancer than adults (Assessment of Risk for Radon in Homes epa.gov/radon)
Zone 1 Counties (Red)
- Highest radon levels on average at over 4 pCi/L (picocuries per liter). 4 pCi/L (picocuries per liter) is the radon level where the EPA strongly suggests you install a radon mitigation system.
Zone 2 Counties (Orange)
- Average radon levels between 2 and 4 pCi/L. The EPA still recommends you consider installing a radon mitigation system if your radon level is below 4 pCi/L but above 2 pCiL.
Zone 3 Counties (Yellow)
- Lowest radon levels on average at less than 2pCi/L.While risk is lower in these areas, there may still be neighborhoods or homes with higher radon levels than the average. Even in a Zone 3 county, your best option is to have a radon specialist test your home to see if you have dangerously high radon levels.

Most properties are mitigated through a process called Active Soil Depressurization (ASD). Radon is in the decay series of uranium, so overtime as uranium decays, radon gas naturally comes up from the soil and gets trapped inside properties. Considering, it’s our goal to trap radon and exhaust it harmlessly to the outside, before it has chance to come in.
For basements or slab on grade properties, we will install an ASD called a Sub-Slab Depressurization (SSD).
For properties with crawlspaces, we will install an ASD called a Sub-Membrane Depressurization (SMD) or Crawlspace Encapsulation.
We offer two guarantees – below 4.0 pCi/L or below 2.7 pCi/L. These guarantees follow the EPA and World Health Organization (WHO).
